Annual Research Project Highlights
As many of you know, each year, in January and February, we conduct a comprehensive research project, during which we question all of our asset class choices in public markets, as well as the particular investments we have chosen for each asset class. We question ourselves and challenge our thinking to ensure that we never become complacent and that we never stop striving to improve. This year’s project resulted in a number of adjustments, but two that we will highlight today are the additions of two ETF families to our portfolios: Dimensional Fund Advisors and Avantis Investors.
Consistent with our views of market efficiency, both of these companies believe in the efficiency of the markets and refrain from stock picking or market timing. However, they both take research to higher levels, studying the concept that the expected returns of different stocks vary, depending on a few factors, such as profitability, size and relative price. While their methodologies do have some overlapping philosophies, they also have some differences. Both ETF families, however, have seen the majority of their ETFs outperform a large percentage of their peers. We have incorporated a few of their low-cost ETFs into our portfolios, and we will hold live events this year to provide an overview of their respective methodologies.
In the meantime, you can review these brief introductory articles on each of these companies by clicking on the second through fourth attachments.
Once again, we would like to thank you for your trust and loyalty, and look forward to speaking with you in the upcoming month.
